Supporting Ethiopian-Israeli Students
Your support will ensure that Ethiopian-Israeli students are provided meaningful scholastic assistance. Every dollar is matched by the Government of Israel.
The Challenge
Ethiopian-Israeli teens face cultural and socio-economic barriers that prevent them from achieving their full potential.
Most Ethiopian immigrant families living in Israel today reside in low-income neighborhoods where schools often lack the ability to provide enrichment activities and basic educational support. Such support is critical to students’ success: 74% of Ethiopian-Israeli junior high school students score below the national average on Hebrew, mathematics, English, and science exams. Consequently, Ethiopian-Israeli teens often encounter great difficulty in the college applications and admission processes, with many performing poorly on the bagrut (matriculation exams), while many others do not graduate from high school. As a result, many Ethiopian-Israelis enter adulthood with substantial academic deficits, constraining their opportunities for socioeconomic advancement.
